Our governing body is made up of ten volunteers including teachers, parents and local members of the community, who care deeply about St Marys and the education and welfare of the children. We meet altogether twice a term, in addition to visiting the school as often as possible, in order to gain an insight into school life on a daily basis.
The essential role of the Governing Body is to ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school, hold the Headteacher to account in a constructive and supportive manner, and oversee the financial performance of the school.
Other responsibilities include supporting the school in the areas of marketing and personnel, health and safety, and premises management – to name just a few key areas.
With so many tasks to be done, the primary reason for carrying out these jobs can be easily overlooked. However, the desire to provide the best education for all of our children is always at the top of our list.
As St Marys is a relatively small school with limited resources, the role of the Governing Body is particularly important in providing practical support to the Head Teacher and her staff.
I hope I have given you an insight into the role of a governor at St Marys and should you wish to contact me, please do so via the office.
